The Adventure Update is here! OMG, I need some food now!
Now that the Adventure Update has arrived (yes, I did get the pre-release. I am not a very patient fellow.), food has become absolutely required. What's worse, I did not realize that the animals were already persistent. (If they are not, Notch and Jeb have certainly done well keeping spawn rates waaaay down.) Luckily, farming was definitely something I had dabbled in long before it was needed.
This is my vine trellis. The vines have grown well, but are not producing pumpkins or watermelons. I will let you all know here when I have this figured out.
This is my wheat farm. It is small, but each harvest yields about 10 or so loaves of bread. Plenty to suit my purposes.
And here we have a small plot of sugar cane. I just dug some trenches and let existing water flow in.
And then there is my animal pen. These guys have been with me for a while now with no despawning at all. Until they add animal husbandry to the mix, chickens are the only animals I kill, since they are renewable. The one bald sheep has not regrown any wool, but I could swear some of the grass is missing.
